Will a 249 cm wardrobe fit under a 250 cm ceiling?
Standing in place, yes, with a centimetre to spare. Getting it there is the problem. Flat-pack wardrobes are built on the floor and tipped upright, and on the way up there's a moment when the diagonal of the side panel stands vertical. That diagonal is the height the room needs. At 60 cm deep it's about 256 cm, six centimetres more than the room has.
The diagonal test
Take the height and depth from the listing and work out √(height² + depth²). For a 249 cm wardrobe:
| Depth | Diagonal |
|---|---|
| 35 cm | 251.4 cm |
| 45 cm | 253.0 cm |
| 58 cm | 255.7 cm |
| 60 cm | 256.1 cm |
| 65 cm | 257.3 cm |
None of them tips up under a 250 cm ceiling. A 249 cm unit would have to be less than 22 cm deep.
The tallest wardrobe that tips up under 250 cm
| Depth | Tallest unit |
|---|---|
| 35 cm | 247 cm |
| 45 cm | 245 cm |
| 58 cm | 243 cm |
| 60 cm | 242 cm |
| 65 cm | 241 cm |
Rounded down. Measure to the finished ceiling: a stretch or suspended ceiling takes off 5–10 cm.
If you still want the 249 cm one
Some models can be built standing, section by section. Most flat-pack units assume you build them on the floor, so read the assembly instructions before you order. Another way out is a model that ships as stacked modules. Or go down a size using the table above.
Measure the ceiling where the wardrobe will actually stand, at the front and at the back. Then check the wall at floor level, because a baseboard pushes the unit forward by half an inch to an inch.
See it on your wall first
The math decides whether it tips up. How a floor-to-ceiling unit looks next to your window, and whether its doors hit the bed, you see better in a picture. Paste the wardrobe link and add a photo of the wall, and the preview shows it at the size from the listing against your ceiling line. With one centimetre to spare, no picture can settle the fit. That part is the tape measure’s job.
Frequently asked
Can a 249 cm wardrobe stand in a room with a 250 cm ceiling?
It can stand there, but it can't be built lying down and tipped up. At 60 cm deep its diagonal is about 256 cm. Assemble it upright in place if the model allows that, or choose a lower unit.
How do I work out whether a wardrobe will tip up?
Square the height, square the depth, add them and take the square root. That's the clearance you need.
What's the tallest wardrobe for a 250 cm ceiling?
About 242 cm at 60 cm deep and 247 cm at 35 cm deep.
Will the preview tell me if it fits?
It shows the wardrobe at its listed size against your wall and ceiling line. For a gap of a few centimetres, trust the tape measure over any picture.
